BRF congratulates its defense partners on SHIELD announcement
Archem, BetaFlix, Praeses, Small Business Consulting Corporation (SBCC) and Stephenson Stellar Corporation were awarded contracts for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract with a ceiling of $151 billion. This contract encompasses a broad range of work areas that allows for the rapid delivery of innovative capabilities to the warfighter with increased speed and agility.
SHIELD is an enterprise-level contracting framework that allows MDA to quickly access next-generation technologies. It is structured to accelerate innovation pipelines—from concept and prototyping through testing, scaling, and potential fielding. A seat on the SHIELD IDIQ is a gateway to long-term defense innovation and industrial growth. Companies may compete for future task orders covering research, development, prototyping, modeling and simulation, advanced manufacturing, materials work, and eventually production. Entry onto the vehicle is the essential first step that enables these firms to pursue downstream opportunities—individually or through teaming arrangements—with the nation’s major defense primes and emerging technology companies.
The selection of Archem, BetaFlix, Praeses, SBCC and Stephenson Stellar Corporation demonstrates the diversification and upward trajectory of the region’s technology and defense-industry capabilities. These companies represent multiple domains critical to SHIELD and to the future of U.S. national defense, including:
- AI-powered data fusion and visualization
- Secure communications and cybersecurity
- Materials, specialty fuels, and process technology
- Simulation, visualization, and creative digital production
- Systems engineering and mission-support capabilities
“Congratulations to these companies on their selection to the SHIELD IDIQ,” said BRF President and CEO John F. George Jr., M.D. “Their inclusion will enhance the region’s visibility as a contributor to national defense modernization, attract defense suppliers and investment to North Louisiana and support job creation in high-skill technical fields. BRF has been working with our partners to build a defense industry cluster around Barksdale Air Force Base and Air Force Global Strike Command, and this is an exciting opportunity to expand collaboration among local and national companies.”
This major, multi-year contracting vehicle is one of the largest innovation platforms ever issued by MDA, designed to strengthen the nation’s missile defense architecture through rapid experimentation, scalable industrial capability, and a broader, more resilient U.S. defense-industrial base. More than 2,463 companies submitted proposals nationwide, with 1,014 awardees selected in the first tranche. The inclusion of multiple firms from North Louisiana places the region among a select group of emerging defense-industry clusters gaining national attention.
